Mill Brew

Can I brew coffee from unground beans?
Let's say that I have the average joe, run of the mill coffee maker, and I want to make coffee with unground beans. If I pour whole beans into the grounds holder thingy and start brewing, how can I expect the coffee to turn out?
As A former Starbucks employee let me tell you how it works. Ok If you were to put whole coffee beans in the filter you would get water with probably a clear really light brown color. And if you were to taste it you would take just the water.
See. . . Coffee is ground at different sizes for different methods of brewing because they stay in the water different lengths of time. Like a french press (The one where you push the top down in 4 min., a lot of people haven't seen them but they are getting popular,) any ways they spend a lot of time, that is the water and coffee, so the grinds don't have to be so small they are rater large. Another brewing method is expresso shots, the water and coffee are only together for about 20 to 30 seconds (Depending on how strong you like your shot) so the grounds have to be pretty small. Assuming that you have a flat bottom filter (Most do) The grounds are a medium grind. (they are exactly between French Press and Expresso) The best method for ungrounded beans would be to boil them in a pot on your stove that way they stay in the water as long as possible, so they can be together for a while because your beans are so large (think about the french press) (You can tell strength by color) When it looks like how strong you normally take your Coffee, take it off and drain the beans out.
Another way, much shorter, would be to grind them in a food processor. but remember. . Medium grind. So about a centimeter circle (not all will be the same just majority should be that size.)
Or just head to Starbucks and get some coffee and they will grind it for free!! And if you have Starbucks coffee they will grind it for you for free too!
