Help with coffee milk frothing and steaming.?
Ok, so I'm learning as much as I can about preparing and everything about coffee, because I Love coffee.
So I wanted to know if I could froth milk at home?
I think steaming the milk (soymilk) would be the same as frothed milk, only without the actual frothing?
I'm guessing steaming milk or heating it makes it sweet?
Correction me if I'm wrong.
At cafés they press steam into the milk, which heats the milk, and froths it, like a kid blowing bubbles into a glass of juice or milk through a straw.
You can buy espresso-makers, that has a steaming-pipe.
I just have a great little instrument from Bodum - link to picture below.
I remove the handle and lid (mine is crome), pour in the milk, pop it in the microwave for a minute or 2, put the handle back on, as well as the lid with the frothing-thingy.
Pull up and press down a few times really fast, and I have frothing, warm milk!!
Steaming your milk will not make it sweet - it may evaporate a little of the liquid, thus increasing the fat-content, but you'd have to heat it for some time, to actually change the taste noticably.
... or burn it to the bottom of the saucepan - I unfortunately speak from personal experience; leave it unattended for a minute, and it'll burn ... that changes the taste
