18 quart electric roaster really hold 18 quarts of liquid it dont look any bigger than 8.5 quart crockpot?
the way the lid is made for the roasters, im wondering if thats part of the capacity?
Yes about the lid. The shape is equal in size to allow the user to be able to cover 8.5 quarts of liquid with 1/2 quart space leftover. You can have 18 quarts or 4 1/2 gallons of solid matter not liquid.
The enclosed inner space capacity of the cooker with the lid ontop is what is measured..
For example take baby diapers. Diapers are marked in the weight categories of the baby. NOT the weight category of poo. The diaper labeled 20 lbs. means a baby of 20 lbs or below NOT 20 lbs of poo.
